Telehealth Benefits in Cardiovascular Care

Telehealth Benefits in Cardiovascular Care

If you followed doctors appointments in the groundbreaking pandemic, you must have heard about telehealth. This article talks about telehealth's role in helping to manage cardiovascular disease (CVD). Telehealth, which uses technologies like video support and remote monitoring, grew during COVID-19 due to social distancing, but declined afterward. It offered a lot of benefits such as cost reduction, better access to care in rural areas, and it also improved patient satisfaction and convenience. Telehealth also helps physicians manage heart conditions like high blood pressure and heart failure over the phone, which is particularly beneficial for more underrepresented groups. However, its challenges include: its acceptance by healthcare professionals,  financial issues, and patient barriers like limited resources to technology, and digital literacy. Strategies to address these obstacles currently include improving the platforms through which telehealth is managed, and having better financial policies. Research into telehealth's role beyond the pandemic is encouraged, especially for urgent diagnosis and remote monitoring. Telehealth is seen as vital for future cardiovascular care, benefiting historically excluded and rural communities. As said by Dr. Takahashi… “‘Telehealth will play an important role in the future of cardiovascular care because the evolution of technology will enable new remote care opportunities to improve medical accessibility,’” Which proves the stance that society has on the newer generations of cardiovascular caregivers.  The American Heart Association also emphasizes its commitment to telehealth excellence through acquiring the American Board of Telehealth, also showcasing telehealth’s benefits to the public today.
